 Second Strong Bone Asia Meeting

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The Ho Chi Minh City Medical Association has the great pleasure, in conjunction with the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), to host the “Asian Insights into Osteoporosis” conference in Ho Chi Minh City.  This conference is a continuation from its previous “Strong Bone Asia” conference in Pattaya, September 2007.  The conference will also be organized in close collaboration with the colleagues from the first Strong Bone Asia conference.  This conference focuses on important osteoporosis issues and the way in which they can be addressed, and to make major advances that benefit the people of Asia.  

Osteoporosis and its consequence of fracture and adverse outcomes represent a major public health

problem, not just in Asia, but also in the world.  This meeting is an excellent forum to share clinical and scientific experiences on both regional and international levels and to set the focus for each and everyone in the years to come in relation of osteoporosis treatment and fracture prevention.  Among the areas to be discussed at this meeting are:

• Epidemiology of osteoporotic fracture in Asia;  
• Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis;
• Health services and public awareness through better health information;
• Management of fracture;
• Treatment and diagnostic guidelines, and future research direction.

The meeting will provide a forum for clinicians and academics and all those involved in osteoporosis research to discuss and contribute to outline initiatives in the creation of a better treatment guideline for Asians, both at a national and at a regional level.  The meeting takes place at a time when the International Osteoporosis Foundation is placing a strong emphasis on the issue of osteoporosis in Asia through the Bangkok conference in December 2008.
